Selina Alko and Sean Qualls have beautiful new books just published. Congratulations!
Selina is the illustrator of "My Taxi Ride" written by Paul Dubois Jacobs and Jennifer Swender, a companion book to their previous collaberation "My Subway Ride". Selina's mixed media and collage pictures are again zippy and inventive, and they perfectly capture the exhileration of being out on the streets of NYC.
Sean is the illustrator of "Dizzy" written by Jonah Winter, a picturebook biography of Dizzy Gillespie. Like he did splendidly with "The Baby on the Way" by Karen English, Sean again has created beautiful and evocative paintings.
And more news: pictures from these two books are in the "Original Art Show" at the Society of Illustrators. (128 East 63rd Street in NYC - www.societyillustrators.org) This is a fantastic annual show that features illustrations from about 150 children's books published in the last year. The show just opened and is on only through Nov 22.
The lovely thing is that these two talented young illustrators are married! Their websites are www.seanqualls.com and www.selinaalko.com
