Here is Baker Seth, showing off his cookies, in a recent picture for the NYTimes. His cookies really are some of the very best around! Just seeing this picture makes my mouth water, and remember:
Years ago I worked as an "elf" in a wonderful bakery called William Greenberg Jr. Desserts, here in NYC. It was just before the busy holiday season and I helped count, weigh, arrange, and pack the cookies, late into the night. The whole experience, and the buttery, sugary, smells, plus the fact that I love baking cookies, inspired me to write and illustrate my book Mr. Cookie Baker.
About 10 years ago Seth and his parents sold the business. Mr and Mrs Greenberg retired and Seth went back to school to get an MBA from Columbia. But it turns out Seth really misses being a baker and he is starting up his own business. At this stage he doesn't have a storefront, but he is hand-baking his desserts and personally delivering them. How great is that! What a breath of old-fashioned sweetness in these days of bland mass-market food! I'll let you know when he has a website (he won't be so old-fashioned as to forgo that - but for right now he can be contacted on the good-old telephone: 646-290-9204)
As Mr. Cookie Baker says: YUM YUM!
