First books by my SVA students: Congratulations!

posted Wednesday, 6 September 2006

I love getting news from my School of Visual Arts students that they have been offered a contract from a publisher for their first book - this is fantastic! Today I heard from a former student Tomaso that he is illustrating his first book, for Greenwillow - Congratulations!

And here I am thrilled to show you first books by more former students. Just published by Chronicle is: "Kangodile" by Janet Landay.  www.janetlanday.com It is an accordian-fold book where you arrange a wonderful array of animals in different combinations, creating new hybrids in both words and pictures, such as a kangodile which is half-kangaroo and half-crocodile!

And soon to be published by Scholastic this fall: "Mrs. Claus Takes a Vacation" written and illustrated by Linas Alsenas.  www.linasalsenas.com  All the attention is on Mr.Santa Claus, but have you ever stopped to wonder what Mrs. Claus is doing in the meantime?! This warm and humorous book is absolutely captivating.
